Kitchen utensils The Majesty’s
museum noble credentials!
The Kathleen Thompson Hill Kitchen Memories Collection, opened in 2022,
is in fact a kitchen utensils museum, one of America’s largest collections,
and the foremost of its kind in California.
The tour begins with the 1872 post office, home of Elizabeth Spencer,
followed by a tasting. The exhibition is enlivened by interviews with
Kathleen Thompson Hill, a collector of kitchen implements for forty years,
picked up during trips to France, the UK, Canada, Japan and the Philippines.
Some of the pieces date from the 19th century.
Visitors can also admire prints of recipes by Alice Waters from the famous
restaurant Chez Panisse, illustrated by David Lance Goines, as well as a
Toast-O-Lator (1948), a toaster fitted with a viewing window!
Finally there is a tribute to Julia Child, who introduced French cuisine
to American audiences, and another to the food writer and culinary
essayist M.F.K. Fisher.

Heidi Barret and Sarah Vandendriessche
‘The Majesty’ Sauvignon Blanc 2023
was born of a collaboration between
the famous winemaker Heidi Barrett
and Sarah Vandendriessche, the
winery’s viniculturist. This limited
edition, available from Elizabeth
Spencer, is an expression of the
Rutherford terroir magnified by
these two women.
Clare Tooley, Master of Wine,
has described it as worthy of its
rank, ‘immediately attractive, with
delicate floral and botanical aromas.
It is pure elegance on the palate:
vibrant, fresh, perfectly balanced,
with a lingering mineral finish.’
