      The Rhône

      Valley

The Weather. The drought and high summer temperatures affected
each plot and grape variety in different ways.
As a result, thze vineyards on the right bank of the Rhône Valley and
those on the left bank, with differences in maturity of 2 to 3 weeks,
had their own distinctive and complementary characteristics this year.
The harvest, running from 8 August to 21 October. The right
bank, Gard and southern Ardèche, had a lower yield yet more
concentrated grapes with an excellent natural acidity. The harvest
shortfall is estimated to be 30% in some locations.
The left bank, Vaucluse and Drôme, which suffered from frost in 2021,
had a more than generous harvest this time around.
A vintage in the making. The right bank produces potent, Provence
well-balanced wines with an unmistakable “Rhône” character,
and a lovely flavour with notes of ripe fruit and rounded on the
palate. The left bank creates fruity wines with beautiful hues and
       outstanding finesse. Chais du Sud
                                                   Aurélie Saadi, Oenologist
The Weather. The winter was particularly dry and the vines
started to bud on fairly dehydrated soils. Occasional rainfall
at the end of April and beginning of May helped to ease the
situation but was not enough to raise moisture levels in the
soil. Temperatures in May were excessively high. To compensate
for these drought conditions, permission to irrigate the Côtes
de Provence was given on 20 May, which was a record first!
The vines were actively growing in most cases. Flowering was
rapid, but on the eve of the harvest, the grapes were generally
                                                   smaller than those of 2021.
The harvest, running from 12 August to 25 September.
The earliest areas (the coastal zone) started the harvest on
12 August, and then 18 August in Coteaux d’Aix and 26 August
                                                   around Sainte Victoire.
There were good yields in Côtes de Provence, Coteaux Varois,
Côtes de Provence Sainte Victoire and Coteaux d’Aix en Provence.
A vintage in the making. A particularly successful year for
rosé wines! The majority are aromatic, with pale pink hues
and shiny glints, and a very well-balanced acidity.
