New PDO
The INAO (French National Institute for Origin and Quality) has cast its vote. The Gigondas appellation will have its own white wines starting with the 2023 vintage! A decision 11 years in the making!
The specifications for this new appellation stipulate Clairette Blanche as the main varietal (70% minimum), vinified on its own or blended with a number of traditional Rhône Valley varieties found in Gigondas (Bourboulenc Blanc, Clairette Rose, Grenache Blanc and Gris, Marsanne Blanche, Piquepoul Blanc and Roussanne).
Domaine de Longue Toque now produces its own white Gigondas, the first Clairette grapes having been harvested in Gigondas, at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail massif, on a beautiful sunny day in September.
The 47-hectare estate is cultivated according to organic methods. It is located in exceptional surroundings, on a patchwork of terroirs, each drawing its distinctive character from specific geological layers, altitudes and orientations. Its name derives from the long groves – touque in Provençal – that once marked the perimeter of each plot of vines, protecting them from the wind.
