2016: A small harvest but a magnificent vintage
In Chablis, the 2016 vintage has been released after a very challenging year. The weather led us to fear the worst with frost followed by hail followed by rain, making managing the health of the grapes an extremely tricky task. The harvest was very small, but the grapes were ripe and concentrated thanks to hot and sunny summer.
2016 is a great vintage with fruity, balanced wines. And the Chablis Premier Cru Mont de Milieu from J. Moreau & Fils perfectly and deliciously embodies this vintage.
This terroir rich in colluvium on particularly high-quality Kimmeridgean limestone, facing due south on the right bank of the River Serein, always produces magnificent smoky mineral notes. The 2016 is expressed with aromas of very ripe yellow-fleshed fruit with incomparable power and structure. This is definitely a great wine for laying down.
